Transformations on a Coordinate Plane w/ Student Created Image!
Explore engaging transformations on a coordinate plane with student-created images. This activity allows students to demonstrate their understanding of coordinate grid notation and transformations through unique creations and a series of transformations. including: slides, rotations, dilations, and translations.
Purpose:
Students will demonstrate understanding and application of transformations on a coordinate grid. After creating a unique image in Quadrant I, a series of transformations will be performed creating congruent images in different quadrants. Lastly, a dilation (enlargement only) will be applied to one of the images.
This assessment will showcase (1) the understanding of transformations, (2) the level of accuracy when applying transformations, and lastly, (3) accuracy when following directions and checking the rubric to ensure full completion. Students are provided a rubric to self-assess their project and checklists throughout the student packet pages to ensure completion. Teachers are provided with a rubric to assess each student’s work.
Transformations include: translation (slide), reflection, rotation, and dilation (enlargement only).
Scoring:
A student rubric is provided for students to self-score their work.
A teacher rubric is provided for teacher evaluation of skill application proficiency.
