Comparing Numbers - Greater/Less Than, Equal To Animal Helpers
Animal greater than, less than, and equal to comparison symbols are a fun way to learn how to compare numbers. Each critter is labeled to simplify understanding and make learning engaging. Regular symbols <, >, and = are included as well!
These fun critters will help your students understand the difference between the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols.
Each Helper is labeled with the creature's name and the words "...is less than...", "...is greater than...", or "...is equal to..." to help students practice reading the comparison number sentence correctly.
I have included the simple >, <, and = signs for students who find the animals confusing or too overwhelming.
Each page is to be printed single-sided and cut along the dotted lines. You may choose to have your students color the Helpers before they are folded and taped/glued shut.

How to Use
Print pages single-sided, either on regular printer paper or cardstock.
Cut each Helper along the dotted lines ONLY. Do NOT cut down the middle.
Fold each Helper down the middle so the pictures mirror each other and tape or glue to keep it together.
Optional: Have students color their Helper before folding.
Students put the Helper between two numbers to compare.
Each Helper is labeled with the name of the creature and the words “is less than” or “is greater than” to help students state the comparison properly and remember which symbol is which.
Included are student comparing mats and blank cards for you or your students to add their own numbers.
(Hint - put mats in a plastic sheet cover and students have an instant wipeable & reusable mat!)
Students can use the Comparison Helpers on whiteboards as well.
The images of each critter were hand-drawn, scanned, and digitized. Please respect my art and only use these pictures for their intended use -- educating children in a fun way!
